Fort Kijkduin is one of the forts of Den Helder and served in earlier times as a defense. The fort has been completely restored and gives a fascinating way a glimpse into the history, with a great defensive wall, the massive bridge crane, the redoubt where the soldiers were staying, the powder magazine, prison, bunker route and vaults, where the museum is located.
The museum tells the story of Fort Kijkduin. Since the restoration is also the North Sea Aquarium in the vaults with a breathtaking meter long glass tunnel, which is entirely surrounded by the aquarium. You walk by in between the fish and other sea creatures!
It is possible to get a tour of the fort (just an indication off availability of guides).
