Zwanenwater is nestled in the dunes of North Holland, south of Callantsoog. This protected area is the largest dune lakes of Europe. You will walk through dune valleys full of flowers and butterflies. From the birdwatch houses you can spot birds on the First and Second Water.
History of Zwanenwater
Zwanenwater arose after the construction of the Zijper Seawall in 1596. By dusting of sand grow dunes, valleys and lakes
Since 1973, the Preservation of Nature protects this nature. In 1988 Zwanenwater was as important migratory bird area the international status of wetland. In 2008, it is designated as geological monument.
